VEV400 Evaporative Humidifier

VEV400 Evaporative Humidifier

I took over the VEV400 evaporative humidifier project shortly after beginning work at Helen of Troy. At the time that I took on the project, the initial design phase had been completed and tools were being built. I oversaw and participated in the design qualification testing process, refined the design, and brought the product to full scale production.

An evaporative humidifier works by moving air over or through a wicking medium, causing water to evaporate into the air. The advantage of the design is that the wick also acts as a filter, holding the minerals and other impurities in the water. It also self-adjusts output of moisture such that it cannot over-humidify a room. In parallel with the humidifier unit, I worked with our partners to qualify a new wick for this model, which has since supplanted the wick in a variety of existing models.

The design changes I made during development led, in part, to the VEV400 being the quietest evaporative humidifier ever produced by Helen of Troy.
